Launching Community Education & Defense Campaign
Today DRUM members launched the next stage of our work for immigration reform with a press conference, community speakout, and the launch of a community education and defense campaign to:
– Acknowledge that gain came out of the struggles and organizing efforts of many undocumented immigrants
– Highlight voices of those who benefit and those who are excluded from this program
– Begin public education to protect our communities from the already swirling scams and rumors
– Continue recruitment to build a stronger base to consolidate our gains, and fight for everyone else, and especially protecting those that will continue to suffer from detentions, deportations, incarceration, and the militarization of the borders
– Not let our communities be divided into “good” and “bad” immigrants, or “deserving” and “undeserving” immigrants
