Defending Our Communities from I.C.E. Raids

DRUM took to the streets in the days leading up to and during the planned ICE raids in our communities to address the fears, provide information, and training in how people can protect themselves and each other.  DRUM members from across the city reached out to thousands of people with Know Your Rights and Risk Assessment materials in Jackson Heights, Hillside-Jamaica, Richmond Hill, Kensington, and Parkchester. By distributing materials and training on how to protect yourself and keep each other safe during the immigration raids, we were able to protect our communities and minimize fear.

In South Queens, MTV News joined us and interviewed DRUM leader Sherry and DRUM member Ryan on their thoughts about immigration raids. This is the first time Ryan spoke publicly about his experience in detention.

How ICE Raids Are Affecting Immigrant Communities in Queens

The Trump administration ordered Immigration and Customs Enforcement to round up undocumented immigrants over the past weekend. MTV News correspondent Yoonj Kim went to Queens, NY where the threat of deportation and detainment sent a chilling effect through the community. We talked to those affected by the threat of the raids, including DACA recipients, and members of the community who have previously been detained.
