No Amazon in Queens!
November 26 2018 – DRUM members mobilized in the cold rain for an action in LIC, the proposed site of the Amazon’s headquarters, to oppose this monstrosity that will destroy and displace our communities
DRUM leader Nilesh spoke at the action saying:
“New York City is not only giving $3 billion in subsidies, which should be invested in public housing, education and health for our communities but is also bringing in a corporation that has been collaborating with ICE, the Department of Homeland Security and different police departments on facial recognition software, that criminalizes and aids the deportations of immigrants in this country. Amazon holds the most government contracts that maintain the largest database of detainees. Amazon is also increasingly angling to become a contractor for the military.
We are here to say that, we are not asking for a new or a better deal with Amazon, we are here to say that we DO NOT want Amazon. Whatever amount of money amazon would have generated, that New York City would have “benefited” from, our people are far more worth on that. There is no “better number of jobs”, “better subsidies”, “better deal or plan” that they can give us in exchange for our people, our communities.
Our communities are priceless and we WILL NOT make ANY deal with Amazon.”
