Desis Rising Up & Moving (DRUM) Youth Power! is looking for Desi youth in 9th/10th grade for a Youth Social Justice Organizing Institute this summer.

Applicants must be of South Asian origin: Afghanistani, Bangladeshi, Bhutanese, Guyanese, Indian, Nepali, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Trinidadian, or from the South Asian diaspora

  • 6 week Internship: July 11th to August 23rd, 2013
  • Learn how to organize and fight for STUDENT, IMMIGRANT, and WORKER RIGHTS
  • Work on a campaign with other high school students to decrease the number of Suspensions and Arrests in high schools
  • Stipend for completion of program

  1. What are your parents’ occupations? What is your family’s annual income?  How many people live in your household?
  2. What are some issues/ problems faced by people in your community that you would like to change? How would you try to make these changes?
  3. Briefly describe a personal experience you have had where you were faced with racism, sexism, poverty, state violence, or homophobia? How did you try to change the situation?
  4. How do you see police impacting your school and community?
  5. Does your immigration status make it hard for you to get an education, or do you fear the reporting of your immigration status by school officials?  Please explain.
  6. What does justice mean to you?
