DRUM organizes working-class Indo-Caribbean & South Asian youth and adults around the issues impacting their lives from housing, immigration, climate to worker's rights and more. Our primary base and work is focused on building power among working-class communities.

For years, folxs who wouldn't qualify for our membership have expressed interest in wanting to volunteer, support, or engage with DRUM. Now, we welcome you to our organization. There are two paths of entry depending on where you live:

1) If you live in Queens or Brooklyn, join us as a DRUM Neighbor.

2) Volunteer with DRUM if you do not live near any of the neighborhoods where we organize

We are facing rising authoritarianism nationally while we have a socialist Mayor elected by the hard work of working-class New Yorkers. It’s easy to stay hooked to the news or endless scrolling on billionaire owned apps — the news of the latest atrocities funded by our tax dollars seem endless.

Amidst the heightened risks, people from all walks of life are choosing to stand up for their neighbors and communities. Some are protesting for the first time in their lives while experienced activists and organizers welcome them to the struggle.

While our undocumented neighbors fear leaving their homes we are all confronted by the consequences of a cost-of-living crisis. Prices continue to increase while our wages remain stagnant and every day it gets harder and harder to find a job. Young people are contending with an impenetrable job market and white-collar workers fear layoffs. Meanwhile, the world’s 12 richest billionaires have more wealth than the poorest half of humanity which is more than four billion people.

The level of billionaire wealth is now higher than anytime in history, but the average working-class person of color wonders whether they can afford rent or leave their house and safely return home safely.

Our goal is to figure out how we can continue to build working-class power in our neighborhoods, while also engaging beyond our core base so that we can fight these crises together. We've seen that when we come together with our neighbors and community members to strategize on what we can do and connect across issues then our communities are safer and stronger.

Going to sporadic protests is not enough. We need you to join an organization and to ensure that organization understands its unique contributions to the greater movement for justice, democracy and liberation.

You’ve never been involved in politics? We welcome you.

You’ve been organizing for decades? We welcome you.

You’re tired of talking about how everything sucks and want to be part of changing it? We welcome you.

You’re tired of doomscrolling and want to be part of something in real life? We welcome you.

We'd like you to fill out this form to start to get a sense of interest, of who you are, where you live and how you could be engaged. After you fill out the form, we'll be in touch!
